Bad Breath Remedies for Your Dog

Our furry friends are so cuddly, playful, and fun, but then you get a whiff of their breath, and something has to change! There are products out on the market that could work, but some of them can be rather pricey, and what if they don't work? There are a few natural remedies that you can try on your pet and see if they help with any of the bad breath issues.

Cause of Bad Breath

While we are all familiar with "halitosis," in dogs it can sometimes signify that some changes are needed in hygiene care or diet. Sometimes it can be a result  of a build-up of odor-producing bacteria in your dog's mouth, lungs or gut. If bad breath is persistent, you can talk to your vet and see if there are any other things you should look into.

Ways to Treat Bad Breath in Dogs

Coconut Oil

Antibacterial and antifungal properties reside in coconut oil, making it an awesome product for killing the stinky smell in your dog's mouth. Aside from ridding them of bad breath, it can also be good for their dog digestive, immune, and metabolic system. The antiviral properties in coconut oil help prevent and treat yeast infections and are great for their skin, bones and brain!

Lemon

The strong yet refreshing flavor of lemon could be a wonderful way to mask any odors coming from your pet's mouth. The citrus stops bacteria that grows inside of their mouth, and can prevent bad breath. It is a simple remedy, yet can be very effective.

Carrots

The beta-carotene in carrots is a powerful natural remedy because of those antioxidants. It's a rich source of vitamins and plays a major role in keeping up good health. You can mix these into a homemade dog treat, or see if they'll gnaw on them by themselves!

Brown Rice

Brown rice is high in fiber, which is a great aid in digestion. It is loaded with powerful antioxidants, and these could prevent diseases like cancer, diabetes, etc. Digestion plays a big role in your dog's breath, so by figuring out how to get the digestion in check, you may fix the bad breath.

Parsley

The chlorophyll in parsley helps neutralize odor in your dog's mouth. In fact, parsley is mostly used to control bad breath!
