Removing Pet Stains & Odors

For all of the things to love about our furry friends, like their kisses, the way the snuggle, and how they greet us at the door when we come home, there are a few things that aren't so lovable. Pet odors and stains are not a force to be reckoned with - especially when they start to affect the overall quality of your home. At the PetCot Company, we know how important it is for you to keep your home clean for both your family and your fur-family, so we have a few tips to help you!

Carpet Stains

Whether your sweet pup is still learning how to let you know when they need to go outside, or your older dog has the occasional accident - sometimes you just need to know how to get some stains out of the carpet. You can use a mixture of Borax to help remove the stain and the odor. Mix 1/2 C. Borax in 1 pint of hot water; if carpet, then use 1/4 c. Borax + 1/4 C. Salt (table) + 1/4 C. Vinegar. You can apply this mixture to the stain, and then blot it out or let sit for 30 minutes. Blot the rest out with water and then let it dry.

If you don't want to get the item wet, you can put the Borax on the stain and let it sit before vacuuming it up.

Hardwood Floor Stains

Hardwood floor stains can seem tricky to remove, but if you have the right tools it should come out - even after a little work. First, clean up the area if there is any pet urine left. Then put some paper towels down over the stain and spray hydrogen peroxide on the towels until they are wet. Let it sit for several hours. If you notice the towels drying, you can spray more peroxide on them. After the towels have covered the stain for a while, remove them and put baking soda or kitty litter on it. This will help remove the moisture and the odor.

Lawn Stains

Unfortunately, there aren't any great ways for removing the stains once they are on your lawn. The best plan is to wait and let the grass grow back on its own. There are some preventative things you can do, though. Try not to let your pet go to the bathroom in the same spot repeatedly. After they have urinated on a spot, you can neutralize it by spraying water on the area.

Can it Fit in the Washing Machine?

For all items that can be thrown in the washer, you can add a baking soda to your wash, along with your regular laundry soap and you should see it appears good as new. If you still see or smell the soiled area, you can use and enzymatic cleaner to help break down the pet waste odors and stains.

Did you know that the PetCot raised pet bed is actually designed so that you don't have to worry about pet odors and stains? Tips for Traveling With Your Pet

Traveling is challenging enough without having to plan the trip with your furry friend. At the PetCot Company, we know that any trip with your pet can involve some planning - whether it's across town or across the country! Here are a few ways you can help keep your pet happy and safe during road trips.

Before the Trip

In the weeks leading up to your trip, be sure to include your pups needs in the planning process. There are over 12,000 lodgings that are pet-friendly in the U.S. so you should look up ones along your travel route.

You can also schedule a checkup with your pet's vet to make sure that their vaccinations are up-to-date. If your pet takes any medications, you'll want to bring enough for the entire trip. You should also get a record of their health certifications to bring along.

Gather multiple forms of identification to bring with you, and make sure that your pet has been microchipped. Attach an ID tag to your pet's collar with their name, proof of rabies shot, your name, and your phone number.

Come up with a plan on how to secure your pet in the vehicle. Whether you use a seat belt, car barrier, or dog crate - it's important to come up with these plans ahead of time. Crates are one of the safest choices for your pet, just make sure that there is proper ventilation, that it's large enough for your pet to stand up and turn around in, that it has good handles, a leak-proof bottom, and is padded with comfortable mats.

Preparing Your Dog for Car Travel

Some dogs LOVE to ride in the car, while others are a bit apprehensive about it.You can start to get them used to the vehicle by letting them sit with you in the driveway. Next, you can feed them a few meals a week in the car, follow that up with taking a few very short trips, and then slowly introduce longer trips that end in a fun destination!

Does Your Dog Get Car Sick?

If you notice that your pet starts to get car sick when they ride in the car, you can talk to your vet about motion sickness medication. Common signs of motion sickness are vomiting, excessive drooling, trembling, and a hunched posture.

Create a Happy Travel Environment

While on your road trip, try giving your furry friend an interactive toy that can take up their attention. This can be an old favorite toy or a brand new one that inspires excitement. Plan to stop often and let them stretch their legs and get out pent up energy.

Remember to NOT leave your pet in the vehicle alone. Even if it's only warm outside, it can get very hot in a parked car. If the temperature is 78° outside, a car in the shade can get up to 90° and in the sun your vehicle can reach 160°.

Healthy Practices For Your Pet

While you may be making resolutions for yourself in the new year in regards to health, maybe you should do the same for your pet as well! From food needs to exercise - there are many ways to care for your pet. At the PetCot Company, we know how important your pet is, and keeping them healthy is just one important part of caring for your pet. Here are a few tips to keep in mind for the coming year!

Caloric Needs

While your pet does need food, there is a fine line between having too much and not enough. If you don't give them enough food, it can affect their growth, their ability to stay warm in cold months, and even their energy levels. While overfeeding them can cause them to become obese, which has it's own set of issues. Here is a good guideline to make sure you're feeding your pet the correct amount of food for their weight.

Cats
If your furry feline is around 10 lbs. you want to make sure they are consuming between 180 and 200 calories.

Dogs
You can figure out how much to feed your pet with this formula: 30 x (your pet's weight in kilograms) + 70.

5 lbs.
They need to consume 138 calories in a day.

10 lbs.
Between 200 and 275 calories, a day is a perfect amount.

20 lbs.
This size dog needs 325 and 400 calories a day.

30 lbs.
478 calories is a perfect amount for your pup.

50 lbs.
Limit this size to 700 through 900 calories.

Daily Exercise For Your Pet

While we can offer some suggestions and recommendations for your pet in regards to exercise, it's always best to check with your pet's vet before starting anything new or rigorous.

For long-legged short-nosed dogs like Boxers, Chow Chows, and Mastiffs, brisk walks for about 20-30 minutes are a great way to get some exercise. You'll want to avoid overheating them or over-exerting them, though.

Do you have a large breed dog like a Great Dane, Bernese Mountain Dog or Greyhound? A short 30 minutes walk are a great way to keep them active. Remember that hikes and lengthy runs can be hard on their joints.

Short-legged, short-nosed breeds like Pugs, Bulldogs, Boston Terriers, or Shih Tzus love obstacle courses and walks. You can create a hallway course with cardboard boxes and rolled up towels and let them run around for 20-30 minutes.

If your pup is a short-legged dog with a standard snout, like a Chihuahua or Yorkshire Terrier, slow jog that appeals to their love of sniffing is perfect. Hiding treats and letting them find them is a great way to stretch their muscles.

Long-backed and short-legged dogs with a long snout like Basset Hounds and Dachshunds like brisk walks. Avoid leaping and trying playing fetch for 20-30 minutes instead.

Does your furry friend have long legs and a standard snout? Pointers, Rhodesian, and Ridgebacks love to run. After a year they can run as many as 3 miles at a time!

If you have a water dog, like a Labrador, Golden Retriever, Springer Spaniel, or Poodle they love to swim. 20-30 minutes in a clean body of water that they can get in and out of easily is a great form of exercise.

Giving Your Pet the Best

Just as you care about the food they eat and the way they exercise, we're sure that you care about your pets sleep as well. At PetCot, we've done research to create the best raised pet bed, and now it can easily be yours. Not only is it a great place for your pet to rest and relax, but it's also easy for you to clean, and even a safe place for them to relax by being easy on their joints. A Premium Pet Bed Your Dog Will Love

Having a bed for your pet isn’t always as simple as going out to the store and buying one. For many dogs, a special bed is required, whether it’s because they have health conditions or they cause a lot of wear and tear on it. Because of this, it’s important to do your research and find the premium pet bed that your pets will love as much as you. Here at PetCot, we have designed a bed that you can appreciate, as well as your pets! Here are just a few advantages to owning a PetCot raised pet bed.

Easy to Clean

If you hate washing your dog's pillow bed - we have a solution! Our pet beds are made of woven, vinyl-coated polyester fabric that is breathable, but will not puddle water - and it dries quickly and odor-free! This material is the favorite choice for cleaning ease, and you can easily do it with a cloth or hose with soap and water or a safe disinfectant. Your dog will love it as much as you do because it’s durable and breathable, providing a healthy, cool environment.

Use Indoors or Outdoors

Not many beds can match the quality of a PetCot raised pet bed. Their attractive design makes them beautiful for indoor use - while their rugged construction is perfect for outdoor use as well. The fabric is UV light resistant so the color will look new day in and day out.

Comfortable And Hygienic

While we know that comfort is a very important feature to your dog, we know that a hygienic pet bed is important to you. Our PetCot dog beds provide comfort and support for pets while NOT providing a breeding ground for bacteria and odor found in pillow beds.

Durable

Have you ever found a pet bed that is lightweight, but also tough enough that kennel runs nationwide count on it? That is what you will get with a PetCot bed. They are light enough that you can easily pick them up and move them, but strong enough to handle the weight of even your heaviest dog. Our exclusive cover is heat-sealed seamed, not sewn, and with corner, to corner fabric, you won’t feel weakness in the design. The farm is made of strong, rust-resistant steel tubing - not of PVC plastic, which can easily break and crack.

Replacement Parts

Our beds are one of the most durable on the market. If, however, you have a digger or chewer, we offer affordable, easy to install replacement parts. Just replace the part - not the whole bed! We also offer a 35 oz. vinyl for those dogs that could eat a bus!

Elevated Dog Bed Design

Our unique 4 ½" elevated dog bed evenly distributes dog's weight while keeping the dog away from excessive cold, heat, moisture and pests. Other cot-style beds on the market are higher elevation making it hard for older pets to get on and off.

Attractive

The PetCot bed is designed with you in mind. We know that your pet bed will most likely be located in busy areas of your home, and will be visible to everyone. Because of this, we have many fabric styles available - including our BRAND NEW color, Winter Wheat. This color is only available for a limited time, though. If you fall in love with it, we suggest your order today!

A Comfy, Cozy Pet Bed

If this sounds too good to be true, the testimonials we have from our hundreds of happy customers can help. From all over the country, individuals, kennels, veterinarians can appreciate the design and functionality of our premium pet bed. Visit our website to choose the size that works best for you!

Are Your Prepared for a Pet Emergency?

While you don't want to think about emergencies happening to you or your family, at some point you will probably face something that could qualify. In those instances, you would much rather be prepared than wish you had taken some important steps ahead of time. At the PetCot Company, we know how important your furry friend is, and how they can often become neglected in an emergency due to lack of preparation, or even lack of ability to do anything about it. Here are a few things you can do now to make sure you are prepared in the case of an emergency.

Secure Your Pet's Safety

1. Use a microchip or collar with identification so that if you pet ever escapes you can be reached. Also, make sure the information stays up-to-date if you change your phone number.

2. You can put a pet rescue decal on the door or window of your home so that first responders know a pet could be inside.

3. Does your pet have certain places that they hid when they're scared? Make sure you know where they are so you can evacuate faster if something were to happen.

4. Think of a pet-friendly place that you can go in the event you should have to leave your home.

5. Keep an up-to-date image of your pet on your phone. If you ever get separated, you can use that to help find them faster.

Pet Emergency Kit

Because life with a pet will keep you on your toes, and you can never be sure what it going to surprise you, keeping a pet emergency kit can save you some headaches.

Basic first aid supplies

  • A 3 day supply of bottled water and food in a waterproof container
  • Safety harness and leash
  • Waste cleanup supplies
  • Medications and a copy of the pet's medical records
  • List of veterinarians and local pet care organizations
  • List of the pet's feeding routine and any behavioral issues
  • Comfort items, like blankets, or toys. Anything that keeps them comfortable.

What Should I Put In a Pet First Aid Kit?

  • Book on pet first aid. While you can google most questions, if something should happen, like the power was out, you'd probably rather conserve your phone battery for something different.
  • Blanket
  • Chemical cold pack
  • Gauze
  • Adhesive tape
  • Antibiotic cream
  • Cotton swabs
  • Self-cohesive flexible bandages (this stick to themselves and not to your pet's fur.)
  • Disposable gloves
  • Tweezers
  • Blunt tip scissors
  • Sterile saline solution
  • Hydrogen Peroxide (this can be used to make your pet throw up, but only after speaking with a professional)
  • Syringe or plastic eye dropper for liquid medications
  • Pet thermometer

Now that you have your emergency kit supplied and organized, you can relax knowing that minor emergencies can be handled.

Caring For Your Pet Through Life

If you don't have an emergency kit put together for your pet, we hope that this list will inspire you. You can't know everything that can happen, but you can certainly try to be prepared for it. At the PetCot Company, we know how important your pet's comfort and safety are - which is part of why we created the PetCot bed. Our raised pet bed is ideal for any pet of any age. It sits up off the ground to support their joints, yet is easy to clean for you. Visit our website to learn more about our premium pet beds today!
