4 Pup-tastic Ways to Include Your Fur Baby in Easter Celebrations!

Everyone enjoys celebrating the holidays. We do so in many ways - whether it's dressing in our best, gift-giving, enjoying a meal with family and friends, there's always some way to celebrate any holiday. With Easter quickly approaching, The PetCot Company wants to share some fun pet-friendly ways to include your fur-babies in on this upcoming celebration! Here's what you can do to include your favorite fuzz ball on Easter Sunday:

Make your Fur Baby an Easter Basket

Pets enjoy getting new things just as much (if not more) than we do. Don't forget your furry friend when you're picking up stuff for the kid's Easter baskets. Include some tasty treats, new chew toys, a new clean collar, and a shiny new name tag. Since spring is here and you're already working on your spring cleaning, now is also a great time to buy them a new comfortable raised dog bed to go with their goodies!

Create an "Easter Egg Hunt" just for them

Give a dog a bone, he'll chew on it for days. Hide dog treats throughout the house and yard and send them on a hunt, and you'll create an entertaining experience for them that the whole family can enjoy and laugh about. This is a great way for the kiddos to get involved in helping out with Easter as well - let them hide the treats. This will keep them busy while you're prepping dinner and entertaining guests. Your dog will love finding treats around every corner and will likely help you come up with new hiding spots to use next year too. Make sure to have your camera on hand, because you're sure to have some hilarious moments you'll want to capture!

Prepare them a Special Meal to Enjoy with the Family

One of the best parts about a family get-together for Easter is getting to spend time together around the dinner table. Your pet wants to be a part of these special moments too. While it's not ideal for them to sit at your guest's feet and beg for scraps, you can definitely include them in this special occasion by preparing them their own fancy Easter dinner nearby so they feel included. If you typically feed dry food only, spice it up with some wet food and sprinkle some tasty treats on top. Your precious pet will adore your efforts to include them in your special family meal.

Dress them in their Sunday Best

Who doesn't love a freshly bathed dog in bows?! ADORABLE! If you're looking fabulous in your Sunday best, so should your pet. Give them a bath and comb their hair so they smell nice and look great for company. Pick out a cute bow or bandanna to match your outfit so you and your furry friend match. If your pooch is cool with it, you can even go to the extremes and deck them out in a full Easter outfit - complete with bunny ears! It will make for some super adorable family photos.

There you go! With these fun-filled ideas from the PetCot Company, your love pug will feel adored and included on Easter Sunday. You'll get some great pictures to share for years to come, and you'll likely get showered with love and affection from your fur baby. For your pet's Easter basket essentials, visit our website today for a premium raised pet bed and other pet supplies!

Caring For Your Older Pet

Your old pal has grown with you, enjoyed many happy years, and is now entering a new phase of life - their senior age. While there isn't much that changes, there are a few ways you can help care for your pet to make sure they stay comfortable through aches and pains. At the PetCot Company, we know as well as anyone that you need the right tools to help care for your older dog. Here are a few tips to help make it easier, and how we can help!

Provide Nutrition

Good nutrition is key at any age, but it's especially important when your pet is older. Their nutrition is actually critical to maintaining their active and playful nature, which in turn helps keep them younger longer. Take with your vet to learn about the type of diet that your pet needs. They can make food recommendations, and suggest special formulas that are ideal for your senior dog.

Get Plenty of Exercise

Your pup may be getting slower, but it's still important to get them outside and stretching those muscles. You may not be able to go for really long hikes or strenuous running, but you can still get out. Keeping your pet lean in their old age is one of the most important ways to prevent health issues.

Maintain their Weight

Just as extra pounds can cause you to feel achy, tired, and uncomfortable, the same applies for your pet. Additional and unnecessary weight on older dogs means they are experiencing more stress on their body - from the joints to the internal organs. If you feel like your furry friend should lose a few pounds, it's important to talk with your veterinarian. They can help you come up with a plan to accomplish it successfully and safely.

Schedule Check-Ups

The American Animal Hospital Association suggests that senior dogs see their vets at least every six months for a routine check-up. This can help catch diseases and health issues early on and make treatment easier. You should also speak with your vet about specific issues to your dog's breed. From kidney problems to diabetes, or even severe arthritis could be helpful to know about in advance and help you prepare if it's a possibility.

Get a PetCot

Finally, it's important to give your pet the support they need to keep their joints cushioned, and their rest easy. At the PetCot Company, we have designed our raised pet beds to be ideal for younger and older pets alike. We also have special accessories to make it easier on your older pet. Our premium raised pet beds can help prevent join-related difficulties because of the support they provide. They evenly support your bed, unlike filled beds that can clump and become uneven. If you are looking for a pet bed for an older dog - a PetCot is the way to go.

If your pet still needs some extra support, we supply an orthopedic dog bed insert as well as a fleece cover for optimum comfort. Visit our website to learn more about these amazing accessories.

The PetCot Bed

We want to help you and your pet enjoy every day that you have with them - instead of interrupting the time with illness, aches, and pains. By doing a few things now, you can help make the transition into old age easier for both you and your pet. Visit our website to learn more about the PetCot product, and order yours today!

Training Your Pet with Positive Reinforcement

There are a few things every pet needs to learn, and some pets have more training required than others. No matter what standards you have for your furry friend, it’s important to make sure that you are training them appropriately. Just as you are more apt to cooperate when you are given positive reinforcement, the same goes for your pet as well. Positive reinforcement can help to encourage good behavior and maybe even limit bad behavior. Here are a few popular training tips for your pet utilizing positive reinforcement.

Verbal Affirmation

Affirming your pet verbally is a key technique in training. While you want to enforce the affirmation with treats, there’s nothing that can completely replace your pride in their behavior. Try to stick with the same verbal praise like “yes!” or “good dog!” Keep in mind that your tone of voice can also make an impact on your commands and your affirmation.

Reward

Rewards are a great way to build positive reinforcement in your pet. Keep in mind, though, that you should only offer rewards for behaviors you want to encourage. Food treats are an easy way to encourage good behavior. Contrary to the typical pet treats, though, they only need to be pea sized. Food treats need to be very small so that long training sessions don’t interrupt their regular feeding routine. If your dog isn’t motivated by food, you can keep a favorite toy on-hand for a short playtime.

How to Treat Bad Behavior

In the training process, it’s important to not punish bad behavior - this is not positive reinforcement. You can ignore bad behavior, or redirect it to an alternate good behavior that you can then reward. In time, your pet will learn to perform the alternate behavior first and the ignored behavior will go extinct. It’s important to not expect too much too soon out of your pet. They will learn, but it could take plenty of practice or “shaping.” Shaping is when you reward small actions that will begin to lead to the desired actions.

Long Term Training

As your pet begins to learn the desired behavior, you can switch to intermittent reinforcement. One way to incorporate intermittent reinforcement is to slowly decrease the number of times your pet is rewarded with a food treat. The first week you may reward them every single time they are successful, whereas the next week, you only reward them ever other time or so. Finally, the third wee, you only reward them a few times to keep up the good behavior. Always use verbal praise when your dog does what is right, even if you don’t use physical treats. You can also use a variable schedule so they won’t get used to a pattern. Eventually, you can phase out food greats and use lots of era-life rewards like petting and play.

Training with the PetCot Bed

You may not have thought of your raised pet bed as a tool for training, but it can be! Many dog trainers, veterinarians, and kennels use the PetCot to aid and reward their trainees. Some use it for the “place” command, to give pet’s a place to go and stay until you release them. Others use it as a great place for the pup to relax. No matter what your method for using the PetCot bed, it’s a premium pet bed that we are sure you will love. Visit our website to learn more about our colors and sizes that are available.

Tips for Traveling With Your Pet

Traveling is challenging enough without having to plan the trip with your furry friend. At the PetCot Company, we know that any trip with your pet can involve some planning - whether it's across town or across the country! Here are a few ways you can help keep your pet happy and safe during road trips.

Before the Trip

In the weeks leading up to your trip, be sure to include your pups needs in the planning process. There are over 12,000 lodgings that are pet-friendly in the U.S. so you should look up ones along your travel route.

You can also schedule a checkup with your pet's vet to make sure that their vaccinations are up-to-date. If your pet takes any medications, you'll want to bring enough for the entire trip. You should also get a record of their health certifications to bring along.

Gather multiple forms of identification to bring with you, and make sure that your pet has been microchipped. Attach an ID tag to your pet's collar with their name, proof of rabies shot, your name, and your phone number.

Come up with a plan on how to secure your pet in the vehicle. Whether you use a seat belt, car barrier, or dog crate - it's important to come up with these plans ahead of time. Crates are one of the safest choices for your pet, just make sure that there is proper ventilation, that it's large enough for your pet to stand up and turn around in, that it has good handles, a leak-proof bottom, and is padded with comfortable mats.

Preparing Your Dog for Car Travel

Some dogs LOVE to ride in the car, while others are a bit apprehensive about it.You can start to get them used to the vehicle by letting them sit with you in the driveway. Next, you can feed them a few meals a week in the car, follow that up with taking a few very short trips, and then slowly introduce longer trips that end in a fun destination!

Does Your Dog Get Car Sick?

If you notice that your pet starts to get car sick when they ride in the car, you can talk to your vet about motion sickness medication. Common signs of motion sickness are vomiting, excessive drooling, trembling, and a hunched posture.

Create a Happy Travel Environment

While on your road trip, try giving your furry friend an interactive toy that can take up their attention. This can be an old favorite toy or a brand new one that inspires excitement. Plan to stop often and let them stretch their legs and get out pent up energy.

Remember to NOT leave your pet in the vehicle alone. Even if it's only warm outside, it can get very hot in a parked car. If the temperature is 78° outside, a car in the shade can get up to 90° and in the sun your vehicle can reach 160°.

Happy Pets Make Happy Pet Owners!

From traveling with your pets to giving them a comfortable place to relax, the PetCot Company knows how important your pet's happiness is. Because of this, we have created a pet bed that is not only stylish and easy to clean but also comfortable for your pet. If you're looking for a premium pet bed for your furry friend - we would be honored to show off our product. 5 Ways to Keep Your Pet Safe During Halloween

It's almost time to take your furry fiend out and scare the kids into giving you candy! If your one of the many people who takes their pet trick-or-treating, it can be a blast for the whole family. At the PetCot Company, we care about your pet from the type of premium pet bed they sleep on, to their extracurricular activities! Here are a few things to keep in mind so that your pet is kept safe through the holiday festivities.

Candy Is Not for Pets

It goes without saying that candy and pets don't mix, and really should ever mix. All forms of chocolate are poisonous to dogs and cats alike, possibly causing diarrhea, vomiting, increased heart rate or even seizures. Keep all of the candy up out of reach from the pets from the beginning of the holiday to the end.

Keep Pets Away From the Door

The whole evening you will have strangers coming up to your door, which is terrifying enough for many pets, but then to have them dressed in costume too - it may just be too much for them. If possible, keep your pets away from the door. If you have an entry way that can be gated off, you can keep them away you can keep them in a closed off room with you when you're not answering the door.

Only Dress Them Up If They Like It

Some pets don't like to be dressed up, in costume so it is always best to remain flexible in case they really can't stand it. If you are determined to get them dressed up, make sure you start several days in advance to get them used to the feeling of the costume.

Keep Your Pets Indoors

If you have a black cat, this is especially true. Pranksters have been known to snatch up unsuspecting pets, especially the outdoor ones, for their own version of "trick-or-treat." Don't let your pet become a victim to them, and keep your pets put up for a few days around the holiday to make sure nothing happens.

Snap a Recent Shot

Finally, take a recent photograph of your pet, and make sure that their name tag has been updated. Just in case something should happen and they escape, it will be helpful to have this information on hand.

PetCot Cares About Pet Safety

Any holiday can be a bit surprising to your pet because the routines change and sometimes involve things they aren't as comfortable with. Take some time to love on your pet during a holiday weekend, and don't forget to create a safe place for them to retreat to when they need a break. You can put their favorite raised pet bed within easy access, as well as any blankets or toys that they love. If you haven't purchased a PetCot, don't delay! Our beds are premium dog beds, and loved by the pets and their owners alike. Happy Halloween from the PetCot Company!

Easy Exercises For Your Pet

As the evenings start to cool off, it's time to get your pet (and you!) out for some much-needed exercise! Throughout the summer, it's easy to postpone exercise because the temperatures are so warm, but your pet needs exercise just as much as you do, and now is a great time to do it. Remember that it's always best to consult your pet's veterinarian when beginning any type of weight loss or exercise program. They will be aware of your pet's health issues and if there are certain activities that might be too much for them. Here are a few ways to get your furry friend out and about so they can feel happy and healthy!

RUNNING

If you and your dog are wanting to take up running, it can be a great activity for both of you. It can be a bit like multi-tasking though, because you'll not only be watching where you're going, but also making sure you don't trip over your four legged friend. This activity will increase stamina and strengthen muscles in both of you, which makes it a really great choice.

FLY BALL

This is a more challenging activity, but if your pet loves a good physical challenge, as well as a mental, this would be perfect. This game is similar to a human relay race and it involves four hurdles. At the end of the hurdles, there is a box with tennis balls, and the dog has to step on the box to release the ball. Now he has to carry the ball in his mouth back to the beginning, over the hurdles, and cross the finish line. In an official game, the next dog would then go, and the fastest team would win!

TRACKING

While every dog isn't a tracking breed, they all have a fantastic sense of smell, and the sport of tracking can be fun for both of you. While this is a competitive event, you can do it on your own by laying a scent trail before you want to do it, and once the trail has "aged" you can begin the work of finding the object at the end of the trail. If you have property, this can be a great way to utilize it, and if you can kids, you can set the trail up and send the dog and your kids out on an adventure!

FETCH

This is a pretty obvious game, and way of exercise for your pet, but it really does involve some training if they've never done it. This can be fun for both of you, as you teach your dog how to fetch, and then send him running off to catch the ball or stick.

GROUP EXERCISE

If you have multiple pets, sometimes exercise can be as easy as letting them both out in the yard at the same time. They can roll around and play to their hearts content until they are worn out and ready to relax.

Caring For Your Pet Beginning to End

Once your furry friend has gotten a good dose of fresh air and exercise, you may be surprised at how calm they are in the evening! Not only is exercise good for their weight, but it's good for their brain and it can improve their relaxation time. Of course, once they've come in from a good hard workout, they're going to want to find a comfortable, cool place to relax, and that's where a PetCot comes in handy! Our premium pet beds are ideal for your dog because they are extremely comfortable, as well as help keep them cool because they are up off of the floor. Give your pet the best raised pet bed around, and see how much they love to relax on our premium raised pet beds!

Safe & Unsafe Foods For Fido

As we're sure most pet owners can attest, there are always moments where you drop food on the floor, and before you even stop them, your pet has scarfed it down without even chewing. Of course, have you ever considered that some foods aren't actually good for your dog? While many foods are fine for pet consumption, there are a few foods that may surprise you. Here are the green, yellow, and red lights for food that your furry friend can eat!

GREEN - Good to Go!

Bananas
These are a great snack for your pooch. Bananas are rich in potassium and vitamin C - a great treat.

Blueberries
Did you know that blueberries are high in antioxidants? You can feed them fresh blueberries, or you can bake them into tasty dog treats!

Kiwis
These little green fruits are a great source of vitamin C and potassium.

Pineapple
Are you looking for a cool treat for your pooch? Try freezing some pineapple!

Strawberries
These are high in fiber and antioxidants - not to mention, tasty!

Cucumbers
These are a great snack, especially for the furry friends who needs to lose some weight. They are packed with vitamins K, C, and B1, as well as potassium, copper, magnesium, and biotin - but don't contain many carbohydrates, fats, or oils.

YELLOW - Use Caution

Apples
While apples can be a good snack for your pet, you just need to make sure that they don't eat the seeds.

Lemons
While they are okay to feed your pooch - they may not like the taste!

Oranges
These fruits are high in natural sugar, so you'll want to make sure and only give them in moderation.

Broccoli
This vegetable is full of fiber and vitamin C, so it makes a great treat for your furry friend. It can contain a potentially harmful ingredient that causes intestinal issues, so keep it as a rare treat.

Peaches
This can be a great snack, but don't forget that they have a large pit inside of them. This can obviously cause intestinal blockage when eaten hastily.

Watermelon
This is a great treat for your furry friend, especially on warm days! Just don't forget to remove the rind first.

RED - Not Safe For Fido

Avocados
Do not feed your dog avocados. They can lead to vomiting, and that's no fun for either of you.

Cherries
This harmless looking fruit can actually cause cyanide poisoning in large quantities. Not to mention, many have pits that can cause intestinal blockage.

Grapes & Raisins
Did you know that grapes can cause kidney failure in some dogs? It's better to be safe than sorry, so keep the table grapes on the table.

Mushrooms
Wild mushrooms and store bought mushrooms all carry the possibility of being dangerous to your pup. While there are only 50-100 of the 50,000 mushroom varieties that are poisonous, it's better to be safe than sorry and skip the fungus.

Onions
These are definitely on the "no" list. Along with leeks and garlic. They are all in a family that can cause the red blood cells your pets body to rupture, along with vomiting and diarrhea.

We Love Your Pet As Much As You Do

From the food your pet eats to the bed they sleep on, we care about every detail of your pet's life. A Pet Bed That Lasts Through the Ages

If you're like the typical pet owner, you've probably owned quite a few pet beds over the years. There was the "puppy" bed, the "after puppy destroyed his puppy bed" bed, the "really old middle aged dog" bed, followed by the "comfortable old dog" bed. Through the life of just one furry friend you can go through several different beds, and that doesn't even account for the multiple beds you had to buy for your puppy because he really destroyed more than one in those puppy years.

At the PetCot Company, we have created ONE bed that lasts through every age of your four-legged friend so that you can not only save some time but LOTS of money. Here are the ways our premium pet bed can last your dog through the ages.

Puppy Years

Our raised pet beds come in many sizes, and if you don't know how large your little guy will grow to be, we can help you choose a size that will be perfect for them to grow into. Of course, as a puppy parent, we know that the size isn't one of your largest concerns when choosing a bed for your little charge. There are two things that set a puppy apart from every other dog age, their need to chew through everything, and accidentally pee on everything.

When looking for a puppy pet bed, you can be assured that our beds are perfect because not only are they extremely sturdy, and able to stand up to those razor sharp teeth, but if you really doubt our bed's ability to stand up to your pup, we sell chew guards and replacement parts. Our beds are also waterproof, so when your pup accidentally leaks on their bed, you can wipe it up, clean it off, and you're done. You don't have to throw this bed in the washer and then try to re-fluff it to its original shape.

Middle Ages

After your PetCot pet bed has survived the puppy years, it easily lasts through the middle ages of your dog. It's a comfortable place to lay down and relax after a day at the park, while still just as easy to clean - and it doesn't absorb odors. We have small to large sizes, so no matter what size your middle aged dog is, you can find a size that will fit them perfectly. Our raised pet beds sit 4.5" off the floor so that there is plenty of air circulation on a warm day and so they will also be suspended enough off the ground to support their joints.

One of the best details about this bed for your middle aged dog is that you can use them indoors and out. Whether you're taking your four-legged friend camping or sitting at home watching TV after a long day, the same pet bed can accompany you and your pet.

Senior Dogs

When your dog has reached his senior years, there are a few health conditions to be aware of. Many older dogs need extra support on their achy joints, which is why we've created an orthopedic dog bed insert and fleece cover for your pooch. This accessory takes an amazing pet bed and makes it even better for this stage of your dog. The fact that our beds are also easy to clean and waterproof comes in handy again as your dog may experience incontinence.

Best Raised Pet Beds

From the puppy years to the senior years, you can see that our pet beds are perfect for your pup! We are proud to provide you with a pet bed that will last through the ages and is built to last. Of course, if something should happen and your puppy is harder on your bed than you anticipated, you can find replacement parts so your bed will be as good as new. Visit our website to see the different sizes and colors that are available!

How to Choose the Right Pet Food

Your furry friend works hard to keep up with you! They run and play, nap and cuddle, and for all of that, they need the right nutrition to make sure they can continue to do all of these things. Whether you have a cat or dog, there are specific foods that your pet needs at different stages of their life so they can continue to live up to all of their potential. Here at the PetCot company, we realize the value of having the right tools, whether that's a raised pet bed or a delicious and nutritious dog food. Here are a few ways you can make sure you're getting the right food for your pet.

If you have any concerns about your pet's eating habits, what they should or shouldn't eat, or the quantity or quality - please consult your veterinarian for more information.

Consider Their Stage of Life

It's important to realize that your pet's stage of life can influence the types of food they need. While a young pet will need plenty of proteins and vitamins so they can build a strong frame as they grow, while an older pet may need something that helps support their aging body and is easily digestible. Pet food isn't a one size fits all.

Look At The Ingredients

If you aren't sure what type of food to get, you can always start by looking at the ingredients on the bag. They will be in order of quantity used, so you'll want to see some form of meat or fish as the first or second item on the list. You'll also want to find appropriate amounts of protein, carbohydrates, fiber and fats in a pet food.

While there are some who choose to get a grain free or gluten free dog food, keep in mind that there are studies saying that your pet isn't allergic to gluten. If you have any concerns about your pets allergies or diet you'll want to talk to your veterinarian. They can run tests on your furry friend to find out exactly what is happening in their body, and choose a food that works with them.

Compare the Guaranteed Analysis

The Guaranteed Analysis can be found on the back of your pet food bag. The chart lists the percentages of the different ingredients contained in the food, but you have to remember that the numbers are on an "as fed" basis and they don't take into account the amount of moisture in the food. Because different foods have different moisture levels, you'll want to determine the actual levels of moisture by converting wet food to Dry Matter.

Take Time Switching Food

Once you've compared the foods and you're ready to make the switch, remember that it's important to make a slow transition between the new food and the old. There are normal bacteria in your dog's digestive system that allow them to digest their food, and when you suddenly change it on them, they can have adverse effects, and it can be harder for them to transition.

One Transition That Doesn't Take Long At All

Did you know, there's one transition that you probably won't have to go through slowly with your pet? When you bring a PetCot home, many pets fall in love with it immediately, and don't need a transition period to get used to it! Throw a few toys on it, add their favorite blanket, and they are generally hooked to their new favorite premium pet bed. We know you care for every aspect of your pet, so from food to bedding, PetCot is here to make sure you have what you need to love your pet longer!
